Attorney and Community Leader Named “Emerging Philanthropist” of the Year

SUSTAINING SUPPORT FOR GREATER MIAMI’S LGBTQ COMMUNITY DURING COVID-19
For the past 15 years, The Miami Foundation has been grateful to partner with the National LGBTQ Task Force to provide grants that strengthen the LGBTQ community in our region. The Task Force, the nation’s oldest LGBTQ advocacy group, has donated a portion of the proceeds from its annual Gala Miami and Winter Party Festival back to the Greater Miami community, making it the only national organization to do so. More than $3.3 million has been donated to the Foundation’s LGBTQ Community Fund. Dozens of local LGBTQ advocates have served on the Fund Committee to annually make grants that improve quality of life for LGBTQ residents in Greater Miami, and strengthen organizations seeking to make a difference in the lives of LGBTQ people

Something is rotten in our midst and we need to name it, clear it out, and allow our communities to heal. Video evidence of system-level racism has virally accosted us in rapid succession. Before we have enough time to grieve from the last incident, another one unfolds.
#OURMIAMI CONVERSATIONS: FOOD ACCESS IN THE COVID-19 CRISIS
Access to healthy, nutritious food is an ongoing challenge for residents in Greater Miami’s food deserts. Our area’s largest food bank reported that the need for support has more than doubled since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first #OurMiami Conversation hosted by incoming president and CEO, Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, experts shared what’s happening on the ground with food security and how residents can help.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity taking place on May 5, 2020. It’s an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day will create a wave of charitable giving, generosity, volunteer engagement, and civic action to support communities and nonprofits around the world.
