Sold for $33 Million, Proceeds will Benefit Miami Area Nonprofits
This generous gift furthers the Pérezes’ lifelong commitment to serving Miami-area nonprofits and builds upon the family’s multimillion-dollar contributions through their fund at The Miami Foundation. The gift is also the latest milestone in Jorge Pérez’s commitment to The Giving Pledge, a movement of the world’s wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their fortunes to charitable causes.
“The Pérez family is blazing a trail of philanthropic endeavors that is having a tremendous impact in Miami. The proceeds from a property of this magnitude will go a long way to strengthen our community,” said Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, CEO of The Miami Foundation. “For 50 years we have worked with visionary philanthropists, such as the Pérez family, to build a legacy of giving and support to protect the future of our community. This tremendous investment is exactly the kind of bold giving that Miami needs right now.”
“It is our honor and privilege to support The Miami Foundation, an organization which has long shared our commitment to building a more prosperous and resilient Miami,” said Jorge Pérez. “Our entire family looks forward to seeing how this gift will benefit individuals, families and businesses across the region, and, hopefully, how it inspires others to seize the moment and help build a better future for the city.”
The Miami Foundation has worked with the Pérez family for over 30 years. Jorge M. Pérez, one of the nation’s most respected real estate developers, served on the Board of Trustees of The Miami Foundation from 1991 through 1996. In that time, he helped steer the Foundation during the recovery from Hurricane Andrew, another difficult period in our community.
In 2015, the Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation was established at The Miami Foundation. Since then, the fund has donated to Miami-area charitable causes to promote sustainable, inclusive, just communities that include health and well-being, education, environment, and economic development.
Beyond investing in The Miami Foundation’s many philanthropic initiatives, the Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation has also created a series of signature programs, including CreARTE. Designed and administered by The Miami Foundation, CreARTE looks to expand residents’ access to the arts and help make Miami a global hub for artistic excellence. The second cohort of CreARTE grantees is currently under review, with awardees set to be announced later this fall. The Pérez family is also a lead partner for The Miami Foundation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Miami including COVID recovery efforts, the Racial Equity Fund, Give Miami Day, and Support Surfside. To date, through partnership with the Foundation, more than $19 million has been distributed.
“The Miami Foundation is excited to deepen our work with the Pérez family to uplift the communities they serve and build a stronger and more equitable Miami for all,” Lipsey added.
