About Community Grants<\/h2>\n
\n

With the support of generous Miamians, The Miami Foundation<\/strong> is proud to invest in Miami\u2019s nonprofits through flexible funding that supports their ability to invest in growth, innovation, and wholeness. Community Grants, our signature grant program, provides steady funding to nonprofits working to address a variety of issues across Greater Miami.<\/p>\n

As of 2023, we award grants bi-annually, providing two years\u2019 worth of general operating support. In our first grant cycle under this new award structure, we provided 95 grant partners<\/a><\/strong> with unrestricted mission-building support into 2025. Here\u2019s a report on what grant partners accomplished in Year 1 as a result of that shift<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Community Grants is made possible through field-of-interest funds supported by generous Miamians, partnerships with a network of philanthropists, and a growing dedication to supporting community champions through trust\u2013based philanthropy. We are especially grateful for our partnerships with The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, Miami-Dade County, and the State Attorney\u2019s Office of Miami-Dade County.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are grateful for the ability to invest in Miami\u2019s pressing needs and greatest opportunities. What We Fund<\/h3>\n

In partnership with The Frederick A. Economic Stability:\u202f<\/strong> Improve residents\u2019\u202fability to meet local affordability challenges by providing access to opportunities that promote self-sufficiency, entrepreneurship, financial independence, or personal stability.<\/p>\n

Inclusion:<\/strong> Expand opportunities for people with disabilities to promote inclusion and opportunity across all aspects of community life. \u202fSee our summary of this funding category here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This category is made possible by the\u202fSofia Isabel Soto Fund for\u202fInclusion of People with Diverse Abilities,\u202fin loving memory of Sofia Isabel, the daughter of The Miami Foundation\u2019s former President and CEO, Javier Alberto Soto.<\/em><\/p>\n

Inspiring Arts and Culture:<\/strong>\u202fApply the power of arts and culture to strengthen community. This category will catalyze work that champions the diversity of our community,\u202fexpands access to arts and culture experiences for residents,\u202for increases opportunities for artistic\u202fexpression.<\/p>\n

\n

Safer Communities:<\/strong> Promote safety in local communities through crime prevention and deterrence, efforts to reduce substance abuse and addiction, initiatives that combat human trafficking, support for survivors of violence, and youth development programs that encourage safety practices and promote overall community safety. Sustainable Environment:<\/strong>\u202f Develop a healthier, more resilient community by promoting environmental education and action on the restoration of Biscayne Bay (One Water, One Bay), preservation of the Everglades, protecting our communities from the effects of extreme heat, amplifying opportunities for water preservation, or expanding awareness and action on the climate crisis and its local effects. \u202fSee our summary of this funding category here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This category is made possible in deep partnership with Miami-Dade County and dedicated to the life and memory of Harvey Ruvin, a long-time County employee with a passion for environmental education and sustainability.<\/em><\/p>\n

Who is Eligible to Apply?<\/h4>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Eligible applicants are nonprofits with an active 501(c)(3) status as a public charity or projects with an established fiscal sponsor that has this status.<\/strong> Government entities and religious organizations that are considered nonprofit equivalents are also eligible. The proposed work must directly serve Miami-Dade County residents. Our funding priorities are rooted in the values we aim to model together with our nonprofit partners. Focus on progress:<\/strong> We support organizations whose work is guided by clear goals for the growth of individuals and communities. All partners will have a strong potential to create timely, impactful opportunities for individuals and communities to advance and thrive.<\/p>\n

Build solutions:<\/strong> We prioritize partners pursuing long-lasting change for individuals and communities. Organizations should highlight underlying barrier(s) or challenge(s) they currently address so our residents can pursue their greatest potential.<\/p>\n

Collaborate with community:<\/strong> We prioritize organizations with leadership that is representative and inclusive of the communities they serve, especially those that intentionally gather community feedback to guide their work. We believe in authentic community relationships and resident leadership.<\/p>\n

Sustainability:<\/strong> We support high-quality, viable work and prioritize investments that will strengthen organizations serving those most affected by marginalization and lack of access to opportunity. Community Advisors<\/h4>\n

We encourage interested applicants to consider submitting a form to serve as a Community Advisor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Miami Foundation partnered with over 100 Community Advisors to review all eligible proposals to inform final grant selections to ensure rich perspectives are centered at every phase. Community Advisors ensure our Community Grants program remains grounded in our desire to invest in Miami\u2019s most pressing issues by centering a community voice inour review process. We welcome individuals with diverse personal and professional experiences related to each funding category to review full proposals and provide rich perspectives in our selection process. Grant reviews and ratings are informed by Community Advisors, ensuring multiple considerations are made in the final selection phase.
