Below, we offer some highlights from 2025\u00a0and\u00a0our\u00a0gratitude for the many thousands of you who showed up\u00a0for\u00a0this community through your time, talents, passion, and generosity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Miami Foundation\u2019s\u00a0mission is to build a community where\u00a0<\/span>everyone<\/span><\/b>\u00a0can thrive.\u00a0It takes\u00a0<\/span>all of us\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u2013 every philanthropist, nonprofit leader,\u00a0volunteer, and engaged community member\u00a0\u2013<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>working\u00a0and giving together to shape Miami into the vibrant, magical city we know it can be.\u00a0Let\u2019s\u00a0take a\u00a0look\u00a0at what we\u00a0accomplished\u00a0together this year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”communitygrants”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\n

2025-27 Community Grants<\/h2>\n

We kicked off the year by opening our Foundation\u2019s signature grant program, Community Grants<\/a>, which invests in Miami’s greatest opportunities and most pressing issues. Amid an increasingly challenging funding landscape,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and at a time when most grant programs are invite-only,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Community Grants\u00a0<\/span><\/span>rem<\/span>ains<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>op<\/span>en to\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span>everyone\u2019s<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>ideas\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u2014 designed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to surface the community\u2019s boldest thinking and share it more broadly.<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”44771″ img_size=”large” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]We recognize that funding alone cannot meet every need. That reality shapes how we design Community Grants as a resource for the broader community \u2014 one intended to deliver value beyond any single funding decision by strengthening organizations,\u00a0distilling\u00a0their ideas, and sharing them with as many potential donors as possible.\u00a0To that end,\u00a0we\u00a0hosted\u00a0<\/span>nearly 200\u00a0community leaders<\/span><\/b>\u00a0across three in-person Community Engagement sessions in February to help nonprofits\u00a0bolster\u00a0their applications\u00a0and to\u00a0surface\u00a0insights from across the community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In all,\u00a0<\/span>100 community members<\/span><\/b> reviewed more than 900 proposals, representing Greater Miami\u2019s boldest ideas for impact. Ultimately, advisors\u00a0selected 127 organizations<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0to receive more than $7 million in\u00a0multi-year,\u00a0general operating support over the next two years.\u00a0But beyond the grant cycle itself, those 900 proposals lead to insights, introductions, and\u00a0funding partnerships that help our Foundation support bolder, smarter\u00a0philanthropy\u00a0for our community year-round.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]Community Grants are ma<\/span>d<\/span>e possible because of our partnerships with\u00a0<\/span>The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, Miami-Dade County, the State Attorney\u2019s Office of Greater Miami, the Taft Foundation, and generous private donors<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>who have left legacy funds at the Foundation<\/span><\/span>.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1766070222702{padding-top: 15px !important;padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 15px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;background-color: #A4CC00 !important;}”]\n

What else we accomplished together:<\/em><\/h5>\n

In 2025, we awarded $300,000 in unrestricted grants to nine organizations addressing urgent needs around\u00a0<\/span>health equity<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>systems change through our LGBTQ+ Equity Fund<\/a>.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”pfsf”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\n

Launching Press Forward South Florida<\/h2>\n

Our local journalists and storytellers<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>help us understand everything from\u00a0<\/span><\/span>what’s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>happening in our schools, where to volunteer, and when to hold our leaders accountable, to what to do on the weekend.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>C<\/span>ommunities that lack local news coverage<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>remain in the dark as abuses go unchecked, and corruption flourishes. In short, a thriving Greater Miami cannot exist without a thriving local news ecosystem.<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”41617″ img_size=”full” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]That\u2019s\u00a0why in February,\u00a0<\/span>with $3 million in seed funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0we announced the launch of\u00a0<\/span>Press Forward South Florida<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in partnership with other\u00a0<\/span>community foundations across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A local chapter of the national Press Forward effort\u00a0(also housed at The Miami Foundation), this initiative ensures\u00a0<\/span>everyone<\/span><\/b>\u00a0has the information they need to take charge of their lives and our shared future, no matter where they live or what language they speak at home.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of that launch,\u00a0nearly 1,500\u00a0South Floridians<\/strong>\u00a0helped us\u00a0conduct an extensive\u00a0assessment of\u00a0our\u00a0region\u2019s existing media landscape and\u00a0news and information needs\u00a0through\u00a0<\/span>individual interviews, a regional survey, media diaries, and focus groups<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1766070243200{padding-top: 15px !important;padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 15px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;background-color: #009EFF !important;}”]\n

What else we accomplished together:<\/em><\/h5>\n

Through the 2025 Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards<\/a>, we recognized six teams of journalists for their outstanding investigative and public service reporting, and former Knight Foundation president and CEO Alberto Ibarg\u00fcen for his exceptional leadership.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]In the fall<\/span>, we\u00a0<\/span><\/span>hosted<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a free, four-part Introduction to News Sustainability series, led by\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>national experts<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>who shared practical tools and insights on the shifting business models shaping the industry. From revenue strategies to long-term planning, participants gained resources to strengthen their operations and ensure our community continues to have access to trusted, local stories.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”sobp”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\n

10th annual State of Black Philanthropy<\/h2>\n

For the last\u00a0<\/span><\/span>decade<\/span>, our Foundation has<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>honor<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the rich legacy of leadership and generosity within Miami\u2019s Black comm<\/span>unity<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>through\u00a0<\/span><\/span>our State of Black Philanthropy<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>W<\/span>e commemorated the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>event\u2019s milestone<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>10<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>anniversary in Historic Overtown on the week of May 20 to call attention to the 160th anniversary of Florida\u2019s Emancipation Day. In the spirit of this pivotal moment of Black liberation, this year\u2019s event \u2013 and complementary report \u2013 centered Black Miami\u2019s freedom to live, thrive, and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>write<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the future.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”43614″ img_size=”large” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]During our event, we turned the spotlight on\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span>our 2025 Honorees<\/span><\/span><\/strong>: Valencia Gunder (The Smile Trust, The Black Collective), Cornell Crews Jr. (The Community Reinvestment Alliance of Florida), Dr. Dorothy Jenkins Fields (The Black Archives), and philanthropists Tracey Robertson Carter and Christopher Carter,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span>five honorees who have powerfully\u00a0<\/span>demonstrated<\/span>\u00a0love in action<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, uplifting communities and driving meaningful change.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]For the first time ever, we\u00a0<\/span>welcomed the public<\/span><\/b>\u00a0to join us with a free Community Celebration and turned on our Give Miami Day platform\u00a0to fundraise for\u00a0<\/span>10\u00a0nonprofits<\/span><\/b>\u00a0serving the\u00a0Overtown\u00a0community.\u00a0With\u00a0matching investments<\/span>\u00a0from the Simkins Family and the Martin Family\/Terra Group<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>137 donors<\/span><\/b>\u00a0helped us\u00a0raise $108,577.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1766070250197{padding-top: 15px !important;padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 15px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;background-color: #6A3EBD !important;}” el_class=”lml-white”]\n

What else we accomplished together:<\/em><\/h5>\n

Amidst a rapidly shifting legal landscape, we provided dozens of risk management workshops and 1:1 legal support for nonprofits serving the immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text css=””]Our Foundation remains steadfast in our commitment to building a stronger, more equitable Miami. This cannot be done without a thriving Black community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”perez”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\n

The Jorge M. P\u00e9rez Family Foundation\u2019s 10th<\/sup> Anniversary<\/h2>\n

In May 2015, Related Group CEO Jorge M. P\u00e9rez and his wife, Darlene,<\/strong> launched The Jorge M. P\u00e9rez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation<\/a>, an expression of their deep commitment to charitable giving as signatories of the Giving Pledge and a way to establish a permanent legacy that their children can carry forward.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”44774″ img_size=”large” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]This year, we celebrated 10 years of partnership and impact, including the $73 million that The P\u00e9rez Family Foundation has invested in organizations and initiatives across a multitude of issue areas.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1766072093669{padding-top: 15px !important;padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 15px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;background-color: #A4CC00 !important;}”]\n

What else we accomplished together:<\/em><\/h5>\n

We celebrated Arts Access Miami’s landmark partnership<\/a> with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and a historic $5.6 million grant<\/a> from The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, both poised dramatically expand equitable access to arts education across the school district.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]This includes more than $11 million committed through CreARTE, a grant program that supports local organizations that are making our city a global hub for artistic excellence. 2025 also marked the fourth cycle of the CreARTE program<\/a>, which invested $5.05 million in 43 Miami-Dade arts organizations<\/strong> working to expand residents\u2019 access to the arts and support a thriving, equitable arts community.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text css=””]In the fall, past and present CreARTE grantees<\/strong> congregated at the landmark P\u00e9rez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) for the inaugural P\u00e9rez Grantee Partners Summit, a day of connection, creativity, collaboration, and celebration.<\/p>\n

In celebrating the P\u00e9rez Family Foundation’s 10th anniversary, we also celebrated a relationship with the P\u00e9rez family<\/strong> that stretches back more than three decades \u2013 and their ongoing, shared commitment to building a Miami where everyone<\/strong> can thrive.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”fellows”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\n

Miami Fellows Class XII<\/h2>\n

At the heart of a thriving Miami are the individuals who choose to lead with purpose<\/strong>: those who turn vision into action, who see challenges as opportunities, and who bring people together to create lasting change. The Miami Fellows<\/a> program has long been one of the Foundation\u2019s most powerful tools for nurturing that kind of leadership.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”44822″ img_size=”large” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]In 2025, we announced the Miami Fellows Class XII<\/a>, a group of values-driven professionals 45 and under who are ready to bring Miami into its next chapter.<\/strong> This highly competitive process began with a pool of 169 applications. Twenty-three advisory committee members then helped us identify the 18 extraordinary leaders<\/strong> who make up Miami Fellows Class XII.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]Over the next 15 months, Fellows will explore the intersecting systems shaping Miami\u2019s education, equity, environment, and economy. They will also practice the kind of bold, collaborative leadership our future demands. This kind of investment not only transforms people, but entire communities.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1766071589118{padding-top: 15px !important;padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 15px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;background-color: #009EFF !important;}”]\n

Give Miami Day 2025<\/h2>\n

Thanks to\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>your<\/span>\u00a0generosity and dedication<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>to local nonprofits, we took Give Miami Day to new heights in 2025.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>We opened Early Giving a day sooner and kicked off\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>week of generosity with the inaugural Give Miami 5K + Festival along the downtown Miami waterfront.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”44775″ img_size=”large” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]Through the 5K,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>more than 2,600 runners<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>donated<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>over $135,000<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to run in support of more than 300 nonprofits in our community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>At the festival, 20 nonprofits spotlighted local issues and the work\u00a0<\/span><\/span>they\u2019re<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>doing to address them, and six local food and drink vendors donated a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>portion<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of the day\u2019s sales to local nonprofits. Collectively,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>our community\u00a0<\/span><\/span>raised more than $883,000 for Miami’s nonprofits<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>leading up to and during the event.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>We end the year with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>deep gratitude to\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Asher Raphael and the Raphael Family Foundation<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0<\/span><\/span>making this incredible inaugural event possible.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When the government shutdown threatened food access<\/a>, we awarded\u00a0<\/span><\/span>$150,000 in\u00a0<\/span>grants to\u00a0<\/span>organizations <\/span><\/span>leading the way in ensuring that our neighbors do not go hungry.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]We\u2019re\u00a0living in a time where\u00a0division dominates our society\u2019s narrative \u2013 and yet, our community came together to<\/span>\u00a0set new records for numbers of donors, donations, and dollars:\u00a0<\/span>60,369 donors<\/span><\/b>\u00a0contributed 120,301\u00a0donations totaling $43,813,262 to support\u00a0<\/span>1,405 nonprofits.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text css=””]This\u00a0year\u2019s Give Miami Day\u00a0serves as the ultimate proof of what we\u2019re able achieve when united.\u00a0Thank you for what you made possible for this community.\u00a0<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
