Happy Earth Day: Celebrating Some of Miami’s Environmental Champions

Happy Earth Month! Celebrating some of Miami's Environmental Champions

From the Everglades to our sun-soaked shores, Miami’s biodiversity is a testament to our city’s rich culture and history. As we celebrate Earth Month here at The Foundation, we invite you to reflect on the significance of the land beneath our feet. Against the vibrant backdrop of Miami’s landscape, the spirit of sustainability, resilience, and community harmonize.

On this Earth Day, learn about four remarkable community-based organizations that exemplify the profound impact of collective efforts to protect our environment in Greater Miami:

Catalyst Miami. Catalyst Miami is addressing the disproportionate health impacts of the climate crisis on Miami's most underserved communities - including extreme heat exposure, energy burden, and climate gentrification - while advocating for the advancement of a just and green local economy.

Did you know that last year, Catalyst Miami... Defeated a bill that would have caused environmental harm to all Floridians. The bill would have allowed utility companies to pay above-market prices for dirty energy projects and pass on the costs to customers.

Dream in Green. Dream in Green empowers the next generation of environmental leaders through hands-on education and engagement, inspiring students to adopt sustainable practices and become advocates for environmental justice.

Did you know Dream In Green has... Reduced 3.07 Million pounds of Co2 emissions by saving 9,000,000+ gallons of water and saving 2,000,000 kilowatts hours of electricity

Miami Waterkeeper. Miami Waterkeeper is dedicated to advocating for and protecting Biscayne Bay and its surrounding ecosystems.

Did you know Miami Waterkeeper has... Restored 10,000+ corals successfully. Removed 6,000+ pounds of trash from the Miami waters. Stopped 10+ million gallons of chemical dumping.

The CLEO Institute. More Climate Crisis, Less Florida. The Cleo Institue is leading the charge in raising awareness about climate change and advocating for policy solutions that prioritize sustainability and resilience.

Did you know The Cleo Institute has... Engaged 260 elected officials through 40+ advocacy events nationwide. Trained 2,000+ students to be CLEO climate speakers. Engaged 18,000+ people through community events in South Florida.

The Miami Foundation is honored to support and uplift the efforts of environmental champions in Greater Miami. Intelligent land use, robust infrastructure, and healthy ecosystem services are aspirations and essential for building equitable, sustainable, and resilient communities. At The Miami Foundation, we are proud to stand alongside these nonprofits as we work to protect this beautiful place we call home.

The work these organizations do is fueled by support from people like you. On this Earth Day, consider donating to the Biscayne Bay Recovery Fund, Miami Disaster Resilience Fund, and Extreme Heat Protection Fund to help build a stronger, more resilient Greater Miami.
