Stephen Gilmore Headshot

Stephen Gilmore

Community Advisory Council Member
Executive Director, Transition

A native Miami, Stephen R. Gilmore serves as Executive Director of Transition. Established over forty years ago, Transition is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization located in the heart of Overtown. Its mission is to provide job training, job referrals and job placement services to returning citizens (ex-offenders) and non-offenders in Miami Dade County. The organization has a long track record of helping its participants overcome the single biggest obstacle to their successful re-entry into society – finding and maintaining a job. Gilmore, a proud graduate of Miami Central Senior High, Miami-Dade College, North Campus, and Howard University has worked in the career services field for over twenty years. Mr. Gilmore was elevated to Executive Director during some of the agency’s most difficult days. Under his leadership, Transition has expanded its program to include Digital Education, Financial Literacy, Construction Certification, and numerous educational and job training opportunities. Mr. Gilmore manages a small, but effective staff that is dedicated to assisting justice-involved persons and non-offenders become employed. With more than 20 years of experience in public policy, youth empowerment, and mental health, Dr. Summers has been trained at some of the most reputable institutions in the country, including Marist College and The New School. He holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil from The New School. An advocate for diversity, equity, and justice, he empowers young people, communities of color, and the LGBTQ community through education, leadership development, and innovative programming.
